We have now reached a crucial stage in the Carbon Cycles and Sinks Network’s work. In line with the workplan agreed at the inaugural meeting in February, position papers have been prepared on the topics we decided to cover in our first year. These papers, which are included in the document attached, have been used as the basis for the policy recommendations which are also included in the attachment.
The policy material has no standing until it has been discussed by the Network and re-written where necessary so that it represents the views of as many members as possible. If you can improve the policies in the paper or suggest better ones, please let us know. We are planning a meeting at which the policies will be presented and discussed and your input will help set the agenda.
If any member has strong reservations about a policy position the majority eventually reach, we will encourage them to set out their views in writing so that we can include them in an annex to the final version of the attached paper. We think government policymakers will find it useful to know what the various positions are.
